Generosity
Vimutti is entirely dependant upon the generosity of others. We do not charge for any of the teachings, meditation workshops or facilities that we offer. This system of mutual giving has been practiced since the time of the Buddha. It places the responsibility on each of us to decide how we wish to, or are able to, support the Dhamma. Generosity is best practiced with the wisdom that understands the law of kamma. We are continuously creating our future happiness or suffering by how we respond to this moment right here, right now. Reacting unselfishly, with clarity, love and kindness, a human heart opens up and naturally wishes to help others and relieve their pain. The suttas are filled with stories that illustrate the amazing benefit that comes from making merit with material offerings, but giving can also go much deeper. Giving assistance to those who need it, giving time and attention to people who are close to us, giving up materialistic greed, giving up angry responses when we don’t get what we want, giving up thinking we are better or worse than anyone else, giving up the deluded notion that if I hold tightly to what I think is mine that somehow, someday I will be happy—these are all forms of generosity—giving everything back to nature. If we examine life we will see that we tend to get back whatever we give to others. So whatever you want in life, give it.

Anumodana
Thanks to all the people who make Vimutti Buddhist Monastery possible. We rejoice in the good kamma you make. Some people deserve a special mention. |
There are many, many people who have worked hard to bring Vimutti Buddhist Monastery into existence and maintain it as a thriving center for the Dhamma. Certainly our President, Benita and Vice President, Freddie continue to lead the ATBA with reliability and dedication. Priscilla and Edward competently handle the daunting task of managing the finances. Vinitha, even with her recent bad health, continues to handle the complicated job of organizing food to be offered to the monastery on a daily basis. Sunil comes almost every Saturday to do hard labor with a smile.
We are very grateful to Dennis Johnson for everything he offered during his three months at Vimutti. He generously applied his many practical skills to complete a great number of projects around the monastery. These included creating a workshop, finishing the dining kuti floor, making shelves for our storage sheds and office, creating a detailed overview of our water system, remodeling the office entryway and many smaller projects. In addition to his practical skills he was valued as a dedicated meditator and friendly companion.
During the Summer Beth did a great job looking after the landscaping. Because it was the driest Summer in decades, she had to work very hard to keep our newly planted trees alive. Thanks to her efforts almost no trees were lost, and the property is looking beautiful. Beth is very dedicated to the Buddhist path. Her mindful presence, sense of responsibility behind the scenes and kindness towards others does much to keep the monastery running smoothly.
Thanks to Marcus who painted the container.
Anumodana to Gamini, Yoo, Benita, Freddie, and Nuk for their generous donations.
Thanks to all the people who come to offer their service on Good Kamma Day working Bees.
Thanks to Cliff for his work on the new kuti and the covered bench by the ponds.
